Simon was an economist at the DWP, the Treasury and the Cabinet Office, made the move from public service to the commercial world of Panmure Liberum a dozen years ago and is now Chief Economist and Head of Research there.
In his view the headwinds holding back the otherwise ‘resilient’ UK economy are the highest cost of energy in the developed world, burdensome planning legislation and the many restrictions imposed on our capital markets over the last 30 years –in his terms ‘rationing’. All with legislative fixes which require great political will and political capital which need ‘brave’ Government.
