Rome Resources Plc CEO Paul Barrett talked with Proactive about the company's ongoing exploration activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where it is targeting tin, copper and zinc. The company is focused on two key prospects – Mont Agoma and Kalayi – located close to Alphamin's high-grade tin mine.
Barrett explained that Rome Resources has been drilling consistently since completing a reverse takeover in July 2023, with current efforts focused on the Mont Agoma prospect. He highlighted that "we're back to drilling actually last weekend and off to the races again", indicating a renewed operational push.
Mont Agoma is showing promise with strong tin grades near surface and potential for higher grades at depth. Additionally, the presence of copper and zinc in overlying layers suggests significant value in near-surface material. Rome is drilling 6–8 holes in this campaign, targeting around 3,000 metres.
Kalayi, a separate high-grade tin prospect, has completed drilling, and the company is preparing a maiden resource estimate. Barrett emphasised the business model remains focused on exploration and value creation with the intent to sell or partner on the assets in the future.
Security and logistical concerns in the region have been managed through cooperation with Alphamin, including shared use of infrastructure. Barrett noted improving regional stability, particularly with international diplomatic involvement.
He also provided an update on the legacy Pathfinder claim, stating that compensation from the Mozambique government includes five exploration licences, with the potential for a shareholder dividend if asset sales proceed.
